The Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note to get bumped to Android 6.0 Marshmallow shortly

While hardcore fans of Chinese phone superstar
Xiaomi are still waiting for the company's next
flagship, the Mi 4 — released almost a year and a
half ago — is actually getting quite some love from
the maker. Just a while ago, Microsoft announced
that it'll be partnering with the outlet to bring
Windows 10 to the Mi 4, and now a Xiaomi official
has revealed that a bump to Android 6.0
Marshmallow is impending for both it and the newer
Mi Note.

Breaking the news on Weibo, a certain operations
manager at Xiaomi says that a closed beta for a
MIUI7-headed Marshmallow build will be launched
shortly for both devices. Admittedly, our Chinese is a
little rusty, though our read is that next week is when
action's going to happen, with the same Weibo
handle having already published an image of a Mi 4
running the new software.

With Windows 10 and Android Marshmallow
support, Mi 4 owners are obviously going to be
happy to extend the lease on their devices at least for
a while longer. The latest rumors circle February as a
possible choice for Xiaomi to announce the
successor to its flagship, the Mi 5, which CEO Lei Jun
recently teased is well worth the wait. As small time
appreciators of Xiaomi's work ourselves, we sure
hope there's more to Mr. Jun's statement than simple
PR.
