Xiaomi Mi 5 will be launched in February, CEO Lei Jun calls it amazing

After the Xiaomi event on
November 24th, during which the
company unveiled the Xiaomi
Redmi Note 3 and the Xiaomi Mi
Pad 2, CEO Lei Jun spoke a little
about the Xiaomi Mi 5. We've
been noting that it has been 16
months since the company
previously released its last flagship phone, the
Xiaomi Mi 4.

But the executive said that unlike most
companies in the industry, Xiaomi spends 12 to 18
months to develop its flagship phones.
That time frame should mean that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is
close to seeing the light of day. In fact, Lei Jun says
that he is currently using the device as his daily
driver and says that it is amazing. So exactly when
might we see the amazing Mi 5? According to analyst
Pan Jiutang, Xiaomi wants to release its new flagship
after the country's Spring Festival, which takes place
in February.

The analyst says that the company will
be producing a lot of Xiaomi Mi 5 units as it expects
heavy demand for the phone.

The latest rumored specs for the device include a 5.2-
inch display, carrying a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The
Snapdragon 820 SoC will be under the hood,
containing a quad-core CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU.
4GB of RAM is inside, along with a 3000mAh battery.

We still haven't heard anything from Xiaomi about a
possible U.S. launch of the current flagship model,
the Xiaomi Mi 4. Both the Mi 4 and the Xiaomi Redmi
2 have been certified by the FCC, which has fanned
the flames about a possible stateside expansion by
the manufacturer.
