Samsung launches lower end Galaxy J3(6) in China

After a stint at the FCC, and then
at the FCC-equivalent in China, the
Samsung Galaxy J3(6) is now
official. As expected, it's a lower
end smartphone with a hardware
sheet that won't excite the specs
heads, but might prove a
reasonable buy for the wider
public.

Speaking of specs, the curiously-named Galaxy J3(6)
sports a 5-inch, 720 x 1280 resolution Super AMOLED
display, good for a pixel density of 294 ppi, which is
pretty decent on the whole. Underneath it, Samsung
has nestled an unnamed, quad-core processor
clocked at 1.2GHz, along with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB
of storage, the latter of which can be expanded
through a microSD card. On the back, we're looking
at a reasonable, 8-megapixel camera with an LED
flash and auto focus, while a generous, 5-megapixel
selfie snapper takes the front. Powering the entire
show is a 2,600 mAh cell and Android Lollipop with
Samsung's latest TouchWiz version on the software
side. Highlights such as double-clicking the home
button to launch the camera and Ultra power saving
mode have trickled down from higher end Samsung
devices.

While Samsung's Chinese store lists the 7.9 mm-thick
Galaxy J3(6) as available to purchase, we were unable
to find any pricing info. If we were to guess, we'd
probably imagine something along the lines of $120
equivalent in the local market, which would put the
J3(6) right below the already available Galaxy J5 (~
$160). Given the FCC certification mentioned before,
it is entirely possible that the J3(6) will trickle down to
other markets, as well.
